ShaftSense

The Equipmake Shaft Sensor System is a non contacting system which allows the relative positions of 2 or more points on a shaft, or 2 or more shafts, to be measured

Principle of Operation

The System works by encoding each shaft to be measured with a magnetic signal. In most circumstances, the component to be measured can be encoded directly, and does not require any mechanical modification. Measurements can be made on a shaft or component of any material, either magnetic or non magnetic. In either case, a magnetic material is applied to the component to be measured. This material is then encoded with a magnetic signal. This signal is read via a hall effect sensor. The sensors (2 or more) are connected to a microprocessor signal processor, which calculates the speed and differential angular displacement of the shafts. The information is then output via either CAN of 0-5v analogue output.

Applications

DriveShaft & Input Shaft Torque

By measuring the Output flange and hub at either end of a driveshaft, the transmitted torque can be calculated. Similarly, the gearbox input shaft can be measured, giving instantaneous engine power.

Relative motion of Crankshaft & Camshaft

The dynamics of the powertrain systems can me analysed dynamically on the circuit

Gearbox Stiffness & Integrity

Relative phasing of for example the Crownwheel and pinion can indicate gears running out of true due to gearbox housing flexing
